Short Synopsis:  DEFENDERS OF RIGA

The First World War has ended.  After many years spent fighting in foreign lands, Martin returns home to Latvia, where his fiancée, Elza, is waiting.  He has no idea that the decisive battle – both for Elza’s heart and for the newly established Latvian state – is still ahead of him.  The German forces, led by the Russian general Pavel Bermondt, are getting ready to capture Riga, and it seems that Latvia’s only hope against the Germans is the support of the allies.  But Martin is ready to fight and protect his home, with nothing more than a handful of courageous comrades.  The heroism of the defenders of Riga affirms the faith in the Latvian state, both at home and abroad.
